A fluent Welsh speaker 29 year-old Carys attended Ysgol Gyfun
Cymer in Rhondda and started out her athletics career as a middle
distance runner. After getting bored with 'going round and round in
circles' she took up the hammer.
Carys finished sixth at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne
with a personal best throw of 61.80 metres. She is currently the
Welsh record holder and in her spare time Carys is an actor and
director.
Her best achievement to date is winning silver at the 2010
Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She is coached by Lorraine Shaw and
her dad.
