Event: 105+kg Super-Heavyweight Weightlifting
At 6ft 7inches and 24 stone, the 18 year-old from Cardiff is
already making a hefty mark on Welsh weightlifting.
The son of an Iranian father was born in Cardiff and is a fluent
Welsh-speaker after being educated at the city's Glantaf
school.
Darius was part of a rowing talent programme before his size saw
him give weightlifting a try.
The highlight of his short career so far came in October last
year when he broke the Great Britain under 18 record on his way to
junior gold at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in
South Africa in 2011.
The first place in the under 20 competition for 105+ kg super
heavyweight's just another sign of his potential.
He competed for Great Britain for the first time at the European
Championships in Turkey in April 2012 and still has hopes of making
Team GB for London 2012.
With an ambition to become a doctor he has recently completed
A-levels in in biology, physics, chemistry and maths.
