Biography

At the London 2012 Paralympic Games, defending SB6 breaststroke champion, Liz Johnson from Newport added a bronze to her gold and silver medals won in Beijing and Athens respectively.

Johnson broke the Paralympic record in the heats at the London 2012 Games, only for teammate Charlotte Henshaw to immediately break it again in her heat. The 27 year-old swam a season's best time of 1:40.90 to win the bronze medal.

One of Liz's greatest achievements was winning gold in her first event of the Beijing 2008 Games, just 10 days after she lost her mother, Bonnie, 53, to cancer. She credits her mother for having the greatest influence on her career,

Other notable highlights include silver at the Athens Paralympics in 2004 inthe 100m breaststroke. Liz learnt to swim at the age of four when she was first taken to swimming lessons. She was attracted to the sport as it suited her competitive nature.

Liz studied at the University of Swansea and graduated with a BSc in Business Management. After she has retired from swimming she would like to work as an accountant.

Liz trains at the University of Bath.
