After trying cycling 'for a bit of fun' when the Wales National
Velodrome Newport opened its doors Risca-born Harrison has rapidly
made a name for himself as one of Wales' most exciting prospects on
the track.
Joining his first club, Cwmcarn Paragon at the age of 13, Sam
went on to win countless events at the U16 British National Track
Championships and was selected to represent GB at the Cyclo-cross
World Championships in 2008.
He stormed to silver in team pursuit at the European Junior
Track Championships in 2009 which was swiftly followed by a bronze
in the Madison.
2010 was a turning point year for Sam; he was selected to
represent Wales at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games and went on to
finish in fourth place by just an inch in a nail-biting Points
race. Shortly after his return to the UK he made the move into
full-time cycling with the British Cycling Academy Programme in
Manchester.
Next came a gold medal in the Men's Omnium at the Beijing Track
World Cup, a fantastic result for such a young rider.
