Sam is an integral part of the Men's GB Sitting Volleyball team,
having represented them at the World Cup in Egypt last year, and
recently at the Harpers International. He missed out going to the
World Championships with the team due to injury. He plays as a
setter and is regularly voted player of the tournament at the
Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix where he plays for Celtic Dragons in
the National League.
As a youngster, he showed promise in athletics where he became
triple world junior champion. He excelled at throwing but made the
switch to sitting volleyball. Anthony Hughes of Disability Sport
Wales explains: "He has managed to transfer his speed, power and
explosion to help strengthen to Sitting Volleyball. He has brought
vision, creativity and aggression to the team and has been snapped
up by Team GB. Seeing him evolve over the many years, it makes me
extremely proud that he's been selected for ParalympicsGB."
Sitting volleyball is precisely what it says it is - a
Paralympic sport where the players are sitting down in order to hit
the ball over the net.
