Originally from Llandrindod Wells, Abberley has been competing for the last 17 years and in that time has been the Welsh Champion seven times, came third in the British Trials and has scooped two Commonwealth Championships bronze medals.

Now living in Cardiff, the 25 year-old full-time athlete took up judo at just eight years old and is now coached at the Sport Wales National Centre by former Commonwealth Games athlete, Craig Ewers.

With aspirations of World Cup, Commonwealth Games and European medals, Abberley trains three times a day and dedicates his success to the support from his parents.
