Planning
Sport Wales is a statutory consultee for planning
applications that affect playing fields
We aim to protect playing fields, and can offer support to
local authorities, residents and developers when proposed
developments are likely to have an impact on playing fields.
We work closely with 'Fields in Trust' to provide consultation
responses.
Planning guidance for Wales is found in the Welsh Assembly
Government's publication 'Planning Policy Wales'. In relation
to playing fields, the guidance states that:
All playing fields whether owned by public, private or voluntary
organisations, should be protected except where:
- facilities can best be retained and enhanced through the
redevelopment of a small part of the site;
- alternative provision of equivalent community benefit is made
available; or
- there is an excess of such provision in the area.
Policies and guidance related to playing fields and sports
facilities can be found in the links on the right of this page.
